About the Artist

Anne Garretson
Fiber Artist, Black & White Landscape Photographer

Nature has always guided me to my spiritual center. My greatest life lessons always seem to be learned outdoors. It’s quite a good school, with classrooms worldwide and no prerequisites. Look at the color of the sky at different times of the morning. Listen to the sound of the rain falling on your roof, on your hat, on the leaves. What do these simple moments teach us?

One thing they’ve taught me is the secret to my happiness is in my own backyard. There’s really no secret. Find what you love, attend to it, embrace it, take it home, be immersed in the passion of chasing it. For me “it” is a healthy environment.

My studio is in my home in New York’s Finger Lakes region. I live in my own personal nature sanctuary, affectionately called The 50 Acre Woods. But our property is not healthy, so our goal is to revitalize these woods to make the forest whole once again. When I’m not clearing spring-fed seeps, or tending to the beehives, or planting food sources for wildlife, or thinning the woods of invasive species, most likely I’m in my studio.

Watershed Designs allows me to share my love of the environment with you. A portion of every sale supports environmental education and stewardship projects. Hopefully my work can offer a tangible reminder that life without nature’s abundant gifts is incomplete.
